Kilifi ODM woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu has found herself on the edge after Kilifi residents said they will not vote for her.
They claim that she failed to deliver on her mandate and the move is expected to affect the quest that residents have to vote for a six-piece.
As a result, the supporters have declared they will not vote for six pieces in the oncoming general elections because of Ms Mbeyu’s failures.
They instead announced that they will support Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) Party candidate Christine Zawadi to take over the position.
Speaking in Malindi during a meeting attended by over 500 Supporters including Women leaders allied to the ODM party they said Mbeyu had failed and the people have rejected her completely.
The Supporters even sand songs of disowning him and telling her to go in peace including ‘Yote weekend bila mbeyu’ Salama salama salama salama salama salama uwe mbeyu uende salama’ which can loosely be translated to ‘allis possible without Mbeyu and go well Mbeyu.
Mama Asha Solo who is the treasurer of Maendeleo ya Wanawake in Kilifi County and an ODM Diehard said they resolved to elect Zawadi because women will be in trouble if they reelect Mbeyu.
“I am 67 years old and I have been a leader since 1970, some had not been born here and women have not benefitted now we are seeing hope,” she said.
Solo said Raila chose former Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Martha Karua as his running mate and as Kilifi people, they have their own Zawadi.
She said Mbeyu has been heckled Infront of people and even Raila and deserved to be shamed by being voted out.
Solo said during the elections people should not focus on political parties by rejecting her because she is a total failure.
“I urge women to go if you are called but take the money and ensure you vote for Zawadi,” said the MYWO treasurer.
Former Nominated MCA Elizabeth Muthoka Alias Mama Dadu called on residents of Kilifi County to vote for Zawadi as she had the ability to deliver to the people.
“Let us all spread the gospel of Zawadi and peace so that we have peaceful campaigns when we go to the grassroots let’s remember to preach peace and pray to God to give us the leaders he has chosen,” she said.
Mama ODM as commonly called Malindi said even th0ugh she was a die-hard supporter of the party she would not vote for the current Woman Rep and assured the nominated senator that they will mobilize people to vote for her.
“When you go to vote do not forget Baba and Mama Martha Karua, vote for Baba (Raila) God bless us all,” she said.
On her part, Mbeyu thanked the leaders for making the declaration saying the current woman Rep must be having a problem as it was not normal for a leader to be heckled so many times in public.
She said always people learn from Mistakes and prayed to God to help her r be a leader who will serve the people well once elected.
Despite the fact that the Woman rep position has a small kitty she said she would ensure that people get value for the money.
“When elected I will cooperate with the people so that together we move forward as a people,” she said.
Zawadi promised that she would not shame the people of Kilifi or be heckled like the current Woman Rep as there would be no reason for that.
Mbeyu was elected as a woman Rep in 2017 through an ODM ticket at a time when the county voted for six-piece and won the majority of the seats from MCA to Governor.
She earlier served as MCA for Kibarani before taking over the seat which had earlier been occupied by the current Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.
The legislator has however been criticized for failing to deliver her mandate and in many occasions heckled by ODM supporters with the latest one being during the tour of party leader Raila Odinga as people openly said they did not want her.
Before the nominations, Mbeyu had shown interest in the Kilifi North Parliamentary seat but made an about-turn and managed to get a direct ODM nomination ticket to vie for the Woman Representative seat.
