Gideon Moi’s Kanu party said expelled Kanu secretary general Nick Salat was given a fair hearing before his dismissal.
According to the report, Salat was invited to appear before the disciplinary panel but declined.
“The party gave Salat a fair hearing in accordance with the rules of natural justice,” according to a statement signed by National Executive Director George Wainana.
Salat, according to Wainana, chose the public court over the internal dispute resolution mechanism, despite his resignation letter.
Salat’s resignation was accepted on February 17, 2023.
“It is my position that my alleged dismissal from the position of Secretary General as communicated through the press was unlawful and contrary to the rules of natural justice,” Salat wrote in a letter dated February 17, 2023.
He addressed it to the Kanu National Executive Council (NEC), Gideon Moi, the party’s chair, and the Registrar of Political Parties.
Salat was expelled from the party on grounds of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution at a recent meeting in Mombasa presided over by Moi.
Salat was expelled from the party on December 15 following a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) in Nakuru.
Salat stormed the party headquarters in Kilimani on Friday and repainted some sections of the building in the yellow colors associated with President William Ruto’s UDA party.
The former Secretary General has already expressed his support for Ruto.
However, the party dismissed this as “desperate theatrics” and stated that the former SG should move on.
“Salat should stop acting like a deeply betrayed lover and accept the reality of the situation, which is that he was fired for justifiable reasons that he could not defend against through the appropriate legal channels,” Wainana said.
