Kilifi ODM gubernatorial candidate Gideon Mungaro has lashed at Governor Amason Kingi, blaming him for underdevelopment for the ten years he has been in office.
Leading an Azimio Kilifi brigade in vote hunt in Mnarani, Kilifi North Mr Mung’aro said the county that was a recipient of more than Sh100 billion since 2013, ought to have made a superb development and not the current sorry state of affairs.
He was speaking during a meeting with women leaders drawn from Mnarani ward.
During the meeting he was accompanied by her running mate Flora Chibule, Senator Stewart Madzayo, Mnarani ODM MCA aspirant Omar Kita and a host of other leaders.
Mr Mungaro said the poor administration by Governor Kingi led to the collapse of the key sector like health, agriculture and education.
“As we speak now, the health sector in Kilifi county is on its deathbed. It is unfortunate that women even after giving birth at the County Referral Hospital are forced to buy warm water from vendors at the hospital gate because the health facility has no water heaters. In this century and with the onset of devolution, such should not be happening now, ” said Mr Mungaro.
He said agriculture is the main economic activity of the region, the sector never received the much-needed attention hence subjecting farmers to poverty and frustration.
“We can’t afford to be led by such kind of leaders in future. I have drawn a clear plan on how we shall address the key sectors of health, water and agriculture that have literary gone down the drain. Kilifi must breathe under my leadership,” he said.
Mr Mungaro reminded the residents how Kingi s administration frustrated his efforts to set up a modern sports complex at Mnarani grounds and vowed to make sure that projects become his one of the Agenda once elected.
“The people of Mnarani know what happened. I was frustrated by the Kingi administration when I wanted to launch this project. The architect of this is the current Kilifi North MP Owen Baya who then was the County Secretary. But rest assured, we shall set out this project without any hesitation once I am elected as the Kilifi Governor,” he said.
Mr Madzayo also poked holes in Governor Kingi’s leadership, calling it one of the examples of failed leadership that did not deliver to the people of Kilifi. He said that even after fighting for more allocation to the county, nothing tangible to show for his efforts.
“Sometimes I become mad when I see there is a lot of corruption and services not reaching the people. I have worked hard at the Senate to make sure Kilifi county gets it good share of funds. But the money coming here ends in the hands of people who care less about the plight of the Kilifi people. I want to assure you that with Mr Mungaro in leadership, then I will even push for triple allocation of the current funds to Kilifi,” he said.
Ms Chibule, a career teacher promised to work closely with the women in the County to enable them to prosper in development and push them out of the poverty line.
“What we need at the moment is women empowerment. The time when women only played at the fence line is over. I will make sure that we work together and identify the areas of opportunity, close the gap and join hands for the development of our region, ” she said.
Mr Mungaro and his team campaigned for Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and asked the locals to rally behind him.
“Our Azimio Presidential candidate is Mr Odinga and I want us to make sure that you support him. He is the only leader focused to lead this country and not anyone else,” Mr Mungaro added.
