Gilad Millo began his career as a journalist before joining Israel’s foreign ministry in 2003 and serving in Nairobi and Los Angeles.

In 2008, he left Israel’s foreign ministry and relocated to Nairobi permanently.

Gilad Millo, a Jerusalem native, is the most improbable African pop star you’ll ever meet. Millo, a 44-year-old former deputy head of mission at the Israeli Embassy in Nairobi, has won over local radio stations and is establishing a name for himself on social media.

He sings in one of Kenya’s two official languages, Kiswahili.

In 1996, he visited Kenya for the first time as a traveller. Following the terror attacks on Israeli tourists in Kikambala in 2002, he returned to Israel as the Israeli government’s spokesman.

He returned to Kenya as Israel’s deputy ambassador in 2003.

Millo left Israel’s Foreign Ministry in 2008 after a term in Los Angeles and moved permanently to Nairobi with his family.
