Global Fund Demands Ksh184 Million Refund Quoting Fund Embezzlement

In a letter to the Ministry, the organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, stated that the irregularities were discovered during an audit of the campaign funds.

The Global Fund demanded a refund of Ksh184 million on Friday, May 12, stating that officials at the Ministry of Health allegedly misappropriated the fund during a Malaria awareness campaign.

In a letter to the Ministry, the organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, stated that the irregularities were discovered during an audit of the campaign funds.

According to the organization, the funds were stolen between 2020 and 2021.

“The review has identified questionable costs totaling Ksh184 million, as well as suspicious fraudulent payments and activities,” according to a portion of the letter.

According to the Global Fund, there were instances where the ministry overpaid for supplies, with some contractors receiving twice the amount.

As a result, the donor gave the Ministry 60 days to resolve the issues raised or refund the funds.
