According to a Goa police official, two women from Israel and Kenya were arrested on Friday for alleged involvement in an international sex racket.
Maria Dorcas of Israel and Wilkista Achista of Kenya were apprehended in an Anjuna police operation, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi.
According to a press release, agents working on behalf of traffickers based in Goa falsely promised jobs in the hospitality industry to young, educated, and vulnerable Kenyan women.
After bringing the women to India, the traffickers confiscated their passports and visas, forcing them into prostitution under threat of violence and imposing a debt of 5 to 8 lakh rupees.
The racket, which was run by the trafficker duo Maria Dorcas and Wilkista, was mostly conducted online, using escort websites to find clients. When the victims were taken to Bangalore for prostitution, the ARZ NGO became aware of the operation.
The racket was discovered after the NGO ARZ learned about some victims who were taken to Bengaluru, he said, adding that Goa police acted quickly and conducted a raid.
The rescued women have been placed in a safe house in Merces, he added.
