After a fruitless attempt on Thursday, rescue crews continued their search for trapped miners at a goldmine in Bondo’s Abimbo regions on Friday.
Two excavators have been dispatched by Siaya County emergency services to assist concerned villagers who attempted to rescue the eight with farm tools.
When the mine collapsed on Thursday afternoon, ten miners were said to be working there. Two people were rescued from the mine with minor injuries.
On Thursday, Bondo OCPD Roseline Munyomlo informed reporters that rescue teams had been despatched from Siaya, around 100 kilometres distant.
The artisanal gold miners were on a normal mining excursion when the shaft’s sides fell, trapping them within, according to site manager David Orido.
