Government confirms largest Covid-19 tally, as 3 more fatalities

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has confirmed 147 new cases of coronavirus, further raising Kenya’s tally to 1,618 – By Gerald Gekara.

While announcing today’s update Kagwe confirmed that the positive cases were out of a total of 2,831 samples tested in 24 hours.

Nairobi county continues to lead with 90 new cases recorded, while Mombasa recorded a total of 41 cases. Kiambu reported 3 new cases.

Nyeri became the latest county to record coronavirus cases, with 2 new cases, as well as Uasin Gichu county. Kajiado, Kilifi, Embu, Homa Bay, Muranga & Machakos have one case each.

In Nairobi, Kibra had (35) cases, Langata (15), Makadara (9), Westlands (8), Embakasi Central (6), Embakasi West (5), Kasarani (4), Kamukunji (2) Dagoretti North (2), Starehe (2), Roysambu (1), Mathare (1).

In Mombasa, Jomvu and Mvita each recorded 10 cases, Changamwe (6), Kisauni (5), Likoni (5) Nyali (5).

Kenya’s death toll has risen to 58, with Kiambu and Mombasa counties registering 3 new fatalities.

However, 13 new cases were reported to have recovered, raising Kenya’s recoveries to 58.

Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, who hosted the Health delegation in inspecting the situation at Tigoni Hospital, urged the health Minstry to avail more testing kits and PPE equipments.

Mutahi Kagwe further urged Kenyans to take responsibility, even as the government prepares to ease restrictions implemented to recover Kenya’s economy.
