The National Steering Committee of the Climate Resilience Service Programme (Climate WorX) has launched a national registration portal to recruit over 113,000 young people into a transformative public service initiative spanning all 47 counties.
The programme, unveiled by President William Ruto during the Madaraka Day celebrations, aims to empower Kenyan youth through labour-intensive public works that promote sustainability and climate resilience.
Speaking during the announcement, Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga, described Climate WorX as a transitional employment and social protection programme focusing on three key areas: roads and infrastructure, environmental conservation, and housing and urban development.
“Youth who join will take part in impactful activities such as road construction, drainage improvement, cleaning, and the development of footpaths and access roads near public facilities like schools, hospitals, and markets,” Hinga stated.
The youth will be grouped into community clusters and will work in two-week shifts for a period of six months. Each participant will earn a daily wage of KSh 500, while supervisors will receive KSh 550 per day, all paid directly through mobile money.
In addition to manual work, participants will undergo structured life skills and workplace readiness training. This will help prepare them for future opportunities in employment, education, or entrepreneurship.
The programme is also designed to promote inclusivity, with deliberate efforts to ensure gender parity and encourage applications from youth in informal settlements and persons with disabilities.
To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 35, possess a valid national ID, and have a Safaricom line registered for mobile money services.
Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, emphasized the programme’s commitment to equal representation, noting that a 50-50 gender balance is a key target.
Registration is open via the official portal www.crsp.go.ke and will close on June 15, 2025.
