The government has announced a special operation to deal with rogue motorists with illegal car modifications such as strobe lights.
In a notice sent out by the spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, the operation will seek to restore sanity after an unprecedented increase in road accidents.
Vehicles targetted include those found with un-prescribed number plates, federal strobe lights, and foreign plates without motor vehicle foreign permits.
Other motorists on the police radar include Illegal PSVs privates (Usiku Sacco), 7 seater vans; Voxy, Sientas, and Probox.
The police say such offenders have led to multiple accidents that could easily be avoided if the rules were followed.
4,121 people had been killed in various accidents as of November 30, 2021, compared to 3,478 who died in the same period in 2020.
Nairobi led with 495 cases, followed by Kiambu (425), Machakos (205), Meru (158) and Murang’a recorded 150 fatalities.
