In the recent fall out between counties and national counties over pending bills, the government has moved to institute a task force to investigate the existence of pending bills worth billions.
The multi-agency team is expected to look into the suspicious 40 Billion debts owed by the government for various services, to determine the authenticity of the bills.
In a recent directive, Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i ordered county governments to clear their pending bills in order to access crucial county funds.
“We want to debunk the always peddled myth that the National Government does not have the resources to pay pending bills owed to suppliers, contractors and SMEs.” Said Dr. Matiang’i.
So far, 12 counties have paid their bills, out of the 47 Counties in Kenya.
He cautioned the counties to act on their part to boost county suppliers and SMEs by owning up to their pending bills.
