Government to Involve the Public in 2024-2025 Budget Proposal/Making

Kenyans will be involved in public participation on the 2024–2025 budget proposal, according to plans announced by Ndindi Nyoro, chair of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee.

“From next week, we will, as the Committee, be in different counties engaging the public on the budget-making process,” said the NA Budget Chair.

Nyoro gave assurances, saying that the Finance Bill is the National Treasury’s proposal and that published numbers were subject to change. Beginning next week, the committee will be holding public meetings in several areas.

He also underlined Kenya’s democratic character and its position as the world’s 28th fastest-growing economy.

Additionally, he emphasised that the data used to calculate the figures came from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.

Effective public participation strategies will enhance governments’ responsiveness and accountability to their constituents, as well as the people’s opinion of their government’s effectiveness and worth.

Better judgements are made when the public is involved because it provides decision-makers with more comprehensive information to work with, such as more facts, values, and viewpoints that are gathered through public input.
