Embattled Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has called off the much-anticipated reconciliation meeting with the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
This is after Meru MPs said they will not attend the meeting organised by Governor which was seeking to find an amicable solution to a standoff between her and MCAs.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, November 2, she stated that the MPs have stated that they are too busy and will not be available.
“Unfortunaterly, wameandika wote barua wakasema wako na kazi sana hawatapatikana. Mimi nimefanya kazi yangu ya kuwaalika ili tuweze kuongea na siku ile watapatikana wataniita na mimi nitapatikana asanteni,” stated the Mwangaza.
Mwangaza had planned a meeting to reconcile with the ward representatives at her official residence.
Mwangaza had previously written to the MPs, via their chairman John Kanyuithia Mutunga (Tigania West), inviting them to the meeting.
Meru county assembly speaker Ayub Bundi read the invitation letter to all MCAs in the chambers.
Mpuru Aburi, MP for Tigania East, Rahim Dawood (Imenti North), Shadrack Mwiti (Imenti South), and Moses Kirima (Imenti Central) have all distanced themselves from the standoff, claiming that the invitation was issued hurriedly and without due process.
They were also concerned about the governor’s official residence as the venue of the forum even as Mr Aburi demanded an apology from the governor for “insulting” leaders.
The meeting was expected to resolve a raging row between the governor and MCAs over the annual Ward Development Fund the latter had demanded should be made clear on how it will be implemented.
Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been embroiled in a political squabble with members of the County Assembly in recent days.
The county’s service delivery has been jeopardized as a result of the leadership squabble
