Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has declared war on loud clubs and bars operating in the county’s residential areas.
Nassir said that he will not allow noise from some of the bars and clubs operating in residential areas to disturb people.
“If you know that you are operating a club or bar business near a religious institution, an educational institution, or residential areas, know that we will not allow that,” Nassir said.
The Governor announced that beginning next Monday, the county will hold public participation forums in the six sub-counties of Nyali, Kisauni, Likoni, Mvita, Changamwe, Jomvu, and Likoni to collect feedback from affected people.
Nassir stated that the county will give bar and club owners a time frame to regularize their businesses, after which stern action will be taken against those who do not comply.
He promised that the county would conduct raids soon after the compliance period ended to bring those who had failed to comply with justice.
Simultaneously, Nassir issued a notice to property development owners who failed to resubmit their building plans within the county’s regulation period, which expired on Saturday.
On November 17, Nassir ordered that all construction work in Mombasa be halted and that all developers resubmit their plans and designs for county approval.
