President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged Rabai residents in Kilifi County not to sell their lands and instead use the title he has issued to them to empower themselves economically.
Speaking at Kasidi Primary school in Rabai Sub County where he issued 2,100 title deeds to the locals, President Kenyatta said his administration is keen on ending landlessness in the country but Kenyans must also support his course by not selling their lands after getting titles.
“I have today brought wealth to you people. These titles mean a lot to you because you can now use them to get loans and other financial needs to bolster your lives. Don’t go and stand on the road with your title and start looking for buyers. You will be doing a lot of injustice to yourself,” the President said,
He was accompanied by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, Rabai MP William Kamoti, Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire, ASAL CAS Gideon Mung’aro, and Lands CS Farida Karoney among other senior county and national government officials.
The President said his determination to end land problems in the entire nation has been informed by the truth that a community empowered through land can tap into different economic opportunities to sustain their livelihoods.
“Since we came into government, we have so far issued more than five million title deeds with these documents transforming millions of lives across the country. Now to you the people of Rabai and Kilifi in general, take these documents with the much-needed seriousness,” he said.
Governor Kingi on his part thanked the President for his efforts to address the land problem, adding that the good relationship between the county and the national government in addressing this problem has borne fruits.
“As a county we have done more than 30 adjudications. We have surveyed most of the land in the county and because of our good working relationship with the national government, we have been addressing this issue at the most opportune time,” said the Governor.
