Haller Injury: Dortmund Star Striker Ruled Out for Atlético Second Leg

Borussia Dortmund forward Sébastien Haller will miss Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Atlético Madrid due to a recurrence of his left ankle injury.

“Haller injured his ankle again,” said Dortmund coach Edin Terzić on Monday.

“He will now be completely rested for a week. On Saturday, a final diagnosis will be performed to better determine the downtime. We anticipate he will not be available for two to three weeks.”

Haller scored a late goal in Dortmund’s 2-1 first-leg loss to Atlético on Wednesday, but was injured early in the team’s Bundesliga victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

He recovered from a left ankle injury to play for Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring in the final to win the title, but the injury reoccurred.

The player made only substitute appearances for Dortmund before making his first league start since mid-September on Saturday. He had to leave in the ninth minute.
