Harambee Starlets Fall As Tanzania, Uganda And Namibia Rise In Latest FIFA Rankings

Harambee Starlets are now ranked 151st globally, falling down four places in the latest report by World Football governing body, FIFA.

The Kenya women’s National team has been active recently having played four WAFCON qualifiers, edging Cameroon on aggregate win in the first round of the qualifiers before going down to Botswana.

In contrast to Kenya’s downturn, Namibia emerges as a notable success story, climbing 14 ranks to 126th globally. This remarkable progress is mirrored by other nations further down the rankings, such as Congo DR (102nd, up 9) and El Salvador (104th, up 11).

The Philippines (38th, up 6) and Uzbekistan (47th, up 3) also made significant strides within the top 50. The most remarkable ascent, however, belongs to Tanzania, with a colossal gain of 68.24 points.

This achievement propels them to the 146th position globally, showcasing their growing prowess in women’s football.

Nigeria remains the best ranked in the CAF region at position 34 globally followed by South Africa (52), Morocco (60), Ghana (61), Cameroon (68) and Zambia (70).

The latest Women’s World Ranking is laden with intriguing shifts, marking a pivotal moment in women’s football globally.

Over the past four months, a record-breaking 400 international matches unfolded, influencing the rankings significantly.

Notably, qualifiers for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 and UEFA Women’s Nations League games added intensity to European teams’ agendas. Simultaneously, AFC, CAF, and Concacaf zones witnessed qualifying matches for their continental tournaments.

The top echelon of the rankings witnessed a reshuffle, with reigning world champions Spain securing the top spot for the first time, joining the elite club of teams that have reached this coveted position.

The USA, Germany, and Sweden follow closely, forming the top four. England maintains a strong presence in the top five, while previous leaders Sweden experience a slip, down four places to the 5th position.

As the curtains fall on 2023, the next FIFA Women’s World Ranking awaits in March 2024.
