Harambee Stars To Miss CHAN Qualifiers

The Kenya men’s national football team, Harambee Stars, has been left out of the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

This is not entirely surprising given that Kenya is still suspended by FIFA, the world governing body of football.

According to the schedule released by CECAFA, Kenya is not included in the qualifiers list with three North African giants in the name of Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia also missing out of the qualifiers according to a CAF list of nations set for the draw.

Surprisingly, Zimbabwe, which was banned at the same time with Kenya by FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been included in the CHAN draw. There has been no word on whether the Zimbabwe ban has been lifted as of yet.

Kenya will however be handed a chance to participate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after being drawn against Burundi, Namibia and 2017 champions Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The CHAN 2022 qualifiers will take place in Ivory Coast from July 2022 to August 2022, with the tournament, which was originally scheduled for this year, being pushed to January 8th through January 31st, 2023 in Algeria after the previous edition was pushed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
