Simon Mutia Mwongela, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Embakasi, Nairobi, was arrested on Thursday after being involved in a deadly shooting.
Mwongela is alleged to have shot the night guard at a club and lodging facility.
According to sources privy to the incident, Mwongela arrived at the lodging about 4 a.m. and requested that the gate be opened so that he could get some rest.
When the police chief arrived at the gate, it was locked, according to police reports, and he requested that it be unlocked.
The arrest was confirmed by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, who said that the case was being investigated as a murder case.
