Hindu Community Distributes Relief Food To 1250 Machakos Residents

Over 1250 residents of Mbusyani in Kangundo sub-county received food donations and clothes from Hindu Religious Centre in partnership with SEWA Kenya.

Uzalendo news interacted with the elderly who confirms how life has become expensive.

Monica Wairimu is a mother of four and appreciates how the rice, maize, green grams, oil, and porridge flour she received was of great help to her.

”The living standards are too high l want to appreciate the do prd for finding it good to share with us. This food is going to take my family more than two weeks. It has boosted me because l even did not have food for my family today. May God bless them.”

“The donors came at the right time. This area is poor. We have been going without meals and truth be said. We will pray for them because they have helped us. Affording food stuff is hard.”

Nduva Nzuma is 70 years old, does not work, and depends on support from his family. He received the donation with lots of appreciation.

‘Today is a great day for me.l am overjoyed. l have received enough food for my family. l, feel so happy.’

Satish Patel, the organization’s secretary confirms that they are supporting Kenyans with relief as most of them have been affected by drought caused by lack of rain.

”Most people have been affected by famine because of lack of rain. It’s true people need support and we are doing our best to give what we get from different donors to the people.”

Again, he says they’ve been supporting in school feeding programs, drilling boreholes, tree planting, and infrastructure in schools.”We are not only giving food. We are doing other projects which benefit our people.”

The project manager Vipul Shah of Hindu Religious and Service Centre states he is after seeing smiles on people’s faces, and planning to do the same exercise in other counties, calling upon well-wishers to join in helping the needy in society.

”I want to thank all our sponsors who have always come through to help the needy.l am happy because today over 1250 have ho6ne home smiling with 20kgs of food. We have already given in Makueni, and planning to go to Isiolo.”

According to a UN outlook for October 2022 to January 2023 which indicated that 1.2 million people will be in the emergency phase and will need urgent support, the number of Kenyans facing hunger is projected to reach 4.4 million between October and December 2022.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) report showed that this represents an 84 percent increase compared to the same time last year.

The UN bodies issued an early warning for urgent humanitarian action in 19 hunger hotspots countries in the world.

Based on the 2022 long rain food and nutritional security assessment report, the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) said currently, 4.35 million Kenyans are in need of food aid.
