Leading telecommunications company Huawei is already focusing on the next big thing, Net 5.5G, as the world continues to introduce new 5G technologies.

Kevin Hu, President of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, claims that Net 5.5G is planned for a time when the demand for data centres would increase rapidly due to a large number of customers using online applications and when company operations will be highly automated and digitalized.

Hu used the financial services and energy sectors as examples in a statement that was emailed to media outlets, adding that the economy will need communication technology that can support high, simultaneous multi-user demand.

“This near future will have more devices with larger applications connected to the Internet and thus at all times, financial services systems such as Safaricom’s Mpesa coupled with Kenya Power’s technology-driven national energy grid will gain critical national importance. We will need wireless technologies that are more capable than 5G within the next 5 to 10 years as more intelligent applications emerge,” said Hu.

The president stated that the potential to enable 100 billion connections and widespread 10 Gbit/s connectivity has already defined 5.5G.

The development of the digital economy will be greatly aided by this new technology.

He continued by saying that it was anticipated to help human endeavors like biodiversity preservation.

According to Hu, it will be able to develop an extensive monitoring system backed by “space-air-ground” integrated monitoring networks in the Net 5.5G environment of the Internet.

“This system helps to monitor key locations around the clock including road entrances and exits, wildlife habitats, and road nodes in protected areas, to gain real-time knowledge of human activities and ensure that the ecosystem isn’t disturbed.” Said the company president.

Hu predicted that in the future, the data center network will serve as the infrastructure for providers of IT services and will move toward an all-ethernet converged architecture that will meet the interconnection needs of backbone networks in sectors like the financial sector.

He stressed that the industry must work together for the development of Net5.5G.

In order to advance industry consensus and relevant standards, make significant technological advancements, speed up the pilot for business scenario innovation, and keep exploring new business frontiers, Huawei will collaborate with customers and partners.
