In a recent episode of the Red Talk Table Jada along with her daughter Will Smith and her mother Adrienne Banfield Jones and took questions from viewers who asked them about “ Telling a loved one no when they asked for money especially after she worked hard for her current success” – By Stephanie Mwangi
Jada went on to urge people that didn’t grow up with a lot of money to let go of any guilt of turning someone down and she admitted to struggling with it herself.
“I have spent so many years feeling guilty and my guilt made me feel like I owed everyone and I wasn’t allowed to say no and that is not true right? So I came up with a couple of rules for myself.
“First of all I don’t lend money .I only give money that I am willing to give away like this is a gift.” Said Jada.
“When somebody really needs help, I really evaluate it to see if the person is ready for that help you feel me? So it’s like I want a new house but they don’t have a job to support the house they are trying to buy it’s like you are not ready for that.
“ So I am about to help you get into something that ultimately is going to more difficulty for you, so I have learned to help people with resources and education .”
“You should never feel bad about saying no to a friend or family that asks for money because you don’t owe anyone anything because people will tend to make you feel like you owe me ,I was standing next to you ,I grew up in the house with you ,I did this and that with you . At the end of the day you owe nobody nothing.” Said Jada
