The Mbeere North by-election campaigns have intensified, with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua trading barbs at separate rallies over their respective development records in the Mount Kenya East region.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wa Muthende will face Democratic Party (DP) nominee Newton Karish in next week’s parliamentary by-election, which will choose a successor to Geoffrey Ruku following his appointment to the Cabinet.
While campaigning for Wa Muthende in Kanyuambora, DP Kindiki accused Gachagua of resorting to insults instead of highlighting his development achievements during his tenure as Deputy President.
“Ati unanitusi, mimi ni rika yako? Wewe ni kingpin for who? Omba kura wacha kuja kunitusi nyumbani. You are a small timer, I will deal with you. I advised you before you were impeached, hukuniskiza. Your injuries are self-inflicted,” said Kindiki.
Responding to DP Kindiki, DCP party leader Gachagua, while campaigning for DP candidate Newton Karish at Kavengero and Ciangera, told his successor that Mbeere North residents have already made up their mind over their preferred candidate.
“Mimi nauliza Ruto na Kindiki, iko haja gani ya kumwaga nusu bilioni Mbeere na Wakenya wanateseka? Ati leo yuko Bunge, nyinyi Wambeere mtamsikia Kasongo kweli bungeni?” Posed Gachagua.
Wa Muthende and Karish will face off during next week’s Parliamentary by-election that will pick Ruku’s successor.
