A man convicted of stealing an IEBC laptop will serve 2 years in prison with an alternative fine of Ksh 100,000.
Musa Ogendo Sirangi was arraigned before Milimani Law courts where he was expected to respond to allegations of stealing contrary to the law.
Earlier on he had pleaded not guilty to the offence prompting the court to fix a pretrial date for today. He however pleaded guilty.
According to the charge sheet tabled in court, on August 17, 2022, at Anniversary towers, Musa stole one laptop make HP Probook valued at Ksh 226,240 the property of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
The prosecution side told the court that Musa was a first-time offender, however, the court had to mete sentence to serve a deterrence effect.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded with the trial magistrate Evan Ondieki to pass a lenient punishment saying that he was ready to reform.
The court nevertheless noted that the accused deserved a punishment to hasten his rehabilitation hence sentencing him to serve 2 years in custody.
