Kenya has received an additional loan of 15.5 billion shillings from the International Monetary Fund-IMF.

This comes after successful discussions between the IMF and Kenyan authorities, during which Kenya requested extra assistance beyond the current 38-month term due to limited access to alternative types of external finance.

The 15.5 billion shillings are likely to be disbursed as part of the 52.7 billion shillings awaiting IMF Executive Board approval.

Kenya has recently been unable to obtain financing from foreign capital markets, including a new Eurobond and Syndicated loan, as interest rates have risen.
