IMF To Grant Billions Of COVID Aid To Tanzania

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has assured Tanzania of a loan to help the country counter adverse economic impact of COVID-19

This resolution was made after President Samia Suluhu Hassan met virtually with the IMF Executive Director, Kristaling Georgieva.

Tanzania’s presidency did not provide any further details about the meeting’s agenda, but it is possible that it aimed to repair ties with the global financial institution.

In April of this year, there was a back-and-forth over an IMF report on Tanzania’s growth.

Tanzania denied obstructing the publication of the IMF report which accused President John Magufuli’s government of undermining economic growth.
