Two of the world’s most influential philanthropists, Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, are divorcing.
Via their self-named foundation, the couple has promoted causes ranging from environmental health to education over the past two decades.
The Giving Pledge, a movement encouraging rich people to give away the majority of their wealth, was created by the couple and billionaire investor Warren Buffett.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the Microsoft co-founder shared on Twitter.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.
