Five people, including an infant, died in a tragic road crash on Monday at Mbaruk area along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The victims, two men, two women, and the child, were all occupants of a private saloon car involved in the fatal accident. According to Nakuru County Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Ogolla, the car’s driver was attempting to overtake multiple vehicles when it collided head-on with an oncoming long-distance truck.
“The impact pushed the saloon vehicle into a trailer, resulting in instant fatalities for all five,” Ogolla confirmed.
The crash caused a massive traffic jam on the key highway, with vehicles backed up for hours as emergency services and police worked to clear the scene by late evening.
Ogolla urged motorists to exercise increased caution, particularly on this hazardous stretch of road. “We urge drivers to be extra cautious, especially on this stretch which has so far led to deaths,” he said.
The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety on Kenyan highways, where reckless overtaking and speeding remain leading causes of deadly crashes. Authorities have pledged to intensify surveillance and enforcement in high-risk areas.
