A poll conducted by Infotrak has ranked Makueni County residents the happiest lot in the country, followed by West Pokot.
Makueni’s happiness index topped at 64.4 percent, with West Pokot narrowly trailing at 62.4 percent. Machakos county ranked third at 62.1 percent and Bomet ranked fourth at 61.8 percent.
While outlining the reasons, Infotrak’s CEO, Angela Ambitho, attributed the improvement in Makueni’s happiness index to increased public participation in the county’s development projects, and a calm political environment.
“Makueni County was at number 43 in our first index report and that is because the county government was going through hard times from the County Assembly, but now that they have stability it has resulted into peaceful coexistence which gives the county residents a sense of calm,” Ambitho added.
Mombasa, Nairobi, Trans Nzoia, and Taita Taveta ranked bottom four, with low happiness indices of 52.6 percent, 52.5 percent, 52.0 percent, and 48.9 percent respectively.
