Inside President Uhuru’s 26 Million Vaccine Marathon

President Uhuru Kenyatta has stated that by the end of the current inoculation schedule in 2022, 26 million Kenyans, or the whole adult population, will have been vaccinated.

This follows the government’s revision of its Vaccination Deployment Plan, which is aimed at speeding up the achievement of this target.

The Head of State, speaking to the nation from State House in Nairobi on Tuesday, revealed the accelerated plan, which will see over 10 million adults receive the vaccine by Christmas this year.

“Instead of vaccinating 10 million adults by June 2022, we will vaccinate the ENTIRE adult population of 26 million Kenyans by 2022. In fact, by Christmas this year, we intend to have vaccinated Over 10 million adults,” he said.

According to specialists, the country will have created a capacity to vaccinate 150,000 people per day by August of this year, according to the President.

The government has already bought 10 million vaccines from Johnson & Johnson, with the first shipment expected in a month.

According to the Head of State, his government was able to secure the immunizations at a lesser cost by negotiating with Johnson & Johnson.

He added, “We have arranged for them to deliver 13 million vaccines for the price of 10 million vaccines.”

“With a vaccinated population of 30 million people, this will allow us to begin the journey for ‘Herd Immunity’ against this pandemic. And this is our intention for the next 12 months,” said President Kenyatta.
