Intern Posing As A Doctor Cons Patient Sh. 190K

A medical officer who claims to be on internship is under search after allegedly defrauding a patient of Sh195,131 at Kitale County Referral Hospital, putting Trans Nzoia County’s Health Department under investigation.

It is believed that the Conman doctor, Nashon Simotwa Chebeo, was on official duty to care for Jimmy Maleya, who was admitted to the hospital on August 8 by his father Levi Karani.

According to the source, Nashon ended up duping the victims after exchanging telephone number with Jimmy’s sister, who was known to be flying outside of Kenya.

According to his father, Karani, his daughter had requested that the medical officer take good care of her brother because she was traveling to the United States, so they exchanged contacts for follow-up communication on his health.

“My daughter asked the medical officer to take good care of her brother as she was travelling to the US. She exchanged contacts with him for consultative purposes regarding his medication,” Karani said.

Things change after Nashon asks her to send money so that he can buy an antifungal drug that cannot be found in Kitale and the industry cannot release the drug, so he is supposed to go to Nairobi and pick it up.

Without a doubt, Jimmy’s sister sends him Sh195,131, only to later find that they were duped.

“When we realised we had been conned, we approached the medical superintendent, who told us we had been conned by the intern and advised us to formally report the matter to the police,” said Mr Karani, Mr Maleya’s father.

The family reported the incident at the Kitale police station.

Karani said the police promised to have the intern brought to book after investigations are completed.

Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jacinta Wesonga said thorough investigations are ongoing.

“The family has recorded statements and an inquest file has been opened. We will dispense justice to the aggrieved,” she said.
