Kenya and Italy will continue to work in collaboration and close ties for the benefit of their citizens, Italian Ambassador to Kenya Alberto Pieri has said. – By Ramadhan Kambi
The Ambassador spoke at the Malindi Sub County hospital where he accompanied Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi in an inspection tour of the facility, where he also announced several projects that will be undertaken at the facility under their funding.
“I want to reiterate the commitment of the government of Italy to stand by Kenya and particular Kilifi County and especially in Malindi area in terms of development. We just have a very good meeting concerning new projects and objectives. I stressed our fully readiness to evaluate how Italy through other actors can collaborate for better service delivery to the people of Malindi and in Kilifi general,” said Mr Pieri.
Mr Kagwe thanked the Italian government for the support that it has given this country in different areas of development, and also how the Italian government came in handy to assist at this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We believe that Malindi in should be able to afford health services of a level that is attractive to foreigners and tourists but accessible to all, Kenyan residents and citizens.
At the same time we would like the tourist destination, known for the friendliness of its people, to become also a destination of “medical tourism” and offer tranquility and services from this point of view”.
Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi also thanked the Italian government and said that there are currently many ongoing engagements between the two countries.
The Governor said that the Italian government has funded different projects in the county ranging in various sectors like fishing, and road infrastructure.
“All these developments are a sign of the Italian commitment which is not only concentrated in certain sectors, but touches in different sectors of our economy. The relations between the county government and Italy are more alive than ever,” said Governor Kingi.
