Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has moved out of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaving the Kilifi County chairmanship for the Raila Odinga-led party.

His exit in ODM marks the end of his nine years under the party which gave him the ticket to serve for two terms as the Governor.

In a statement, Governor Kingi thanked Mr. Odinga for giving him the opportunity to serve the party he used to win all the seven constituency seats in Kilifi county during the 2017 General Election.

“As I welcome the decision of ODM party to replace me as the Kilifi County ODM Party Chairman, I wish to take this opportunity to thank the party and more particularly the party leader Raila Odinga for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Kilifi County ODM Chairman for the past nine years,” he said in the statement.

Governor Kingi said that during his tenure as the chairman steered the party to great success and made sure that the Party became the dominant party in the County.

“This was affirmed when during the last General Election Kilifi became the only County in the Country to deliver a clean sweep for the ODM Party in all elective positions.I hope and pray that the incoming Chair and his team will match and/or break this sterling record,” he added.

Even as he left ODM, the Governor wished the party the very best not just in Kilifi county but across the country as it prepares itself for the 2022 elections.

Last weekend the party held its meeting and resolved to ouster 5he Governor after he showed interest in forming a new political party for the Coast region.
