Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar has expressed his displeasure with the issuing of a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket to EALA MP Simon Mbugua.

Mbungu was given the direct ticket by the Deputy President William Ruto-led party to vie for the Starehe MP seat in the coming August 9 General Election on Thursday, April 21.

Jaguar who took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with the exercise said that the people of Starehe were denied their democratic right by not being allowed to take part in the nominations and choose their preferred candidate.

“The people of Starehe were denied their democratic right to go to the ballot again for the nominations and choose their leader. The party decided to carry out opinion polls to decide whom to award the nomination certificate and it has been done,” said Jaguar on his twitter account.

Last week’s nominations in Starehe and Kamukunji were canceled due to violence with National Elections Board (NEB) Chairman Antony Mwaura stating that the party would instead choose candidates through consensus or an opinion poll.

The incumbent Starehe MP said that he will hold a discussion with the people of Starehe to look for a way forward since he had not given up on the race yet.
