Kenya international midfielder Johanna Omollo will have to look for another club after his contract was terminated on Wednesday by Turkish side Kocaelispor following the team’s relegation.

The 32-year-old Harambee Star is among the players whose contracts were terminated after the club was relegated to the third-tier division.

“The contract of our professional football player Johanna Ochieng Omollo, which will expire on May 31, 2022, has been mutually terminated,” the club confirmed on their social media pages.

Berkay Tolga Dabanli, in addition to Omollo, has had his contract terminated.

“The contract of our professional football player, Berkay Tolga Dabanlı, has been terminated by our club with the use of the right to relegation clause in his contract,” the statement continued.

Omollo was born in Nairobi and has played club football for Coast Stars, Vise, Fola Esch, Beerschot, Lommel United, and Antwerp in Kenya, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

He joined Turkish club BB Erzurumspor in January 2021 after playing for Cercle Brugge.

In September 2010, he received his first call-up to the Kenyan national team, and he made his debut in 2011.

Omollo played for Kenya at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, scoring a goal against Tanzania to help the team win 3-2, but Kenya did not advance from the group.

Kocaelispor was one of four teams relegated after finishing 16th in the 19-team league. They scored 44 points in 36 games. Bursaspor, Menemenspor, and Balkesirspor were also relegated.
