Hillary Mutyambai, the Inspector General of Police, has asked the DCI to re-open the case of Agnes Wanjiru, who was slain by a British soldier 9 years ago.
Mutyambai took to Twitter to order detectives to gather all available evidence and witness testimony and guarantee that the issue is resolved in a court of law.
He also urged UK authorities to work with their Kenyan counterparts to bring the case to a conclusion and administer justice.
"I have directed the DCI to re-open the case and compile all the available evidence and witness accounts and ensure the case is concluded before a court of law," said Mutyambai.
The UK Ministry of Defence also vowed to support the investigations.
"As with other investigations we always work in partnership with the Kenyan police and subject to international and judicial processes our help will always be forthcoming" the ministry said in a tweet.
After details of how a British soldier in Nanyuki mercilessly murdered the 21-year-old mother of one emerged, Agnes Wanjiru’s family is demanding justice and reparations.
The accused soldier confessed to fellow soldiers, according to the Sunday Times, with claims of a cover-up by British Army bosses also emerging.
Wanjiru, a sex worker, was discovered dead in Lions Court Hotel in 2012 after partying with the military.

According to the Sunday Times, a soldier of the same regiment took two images outside the hotel where Wanjiru’s body was discovered.
"If you know you know," the soldier wrote alongside a crying, laughing emoji. In the post, he also tagged a few members of his crew.

According to the British newspaper, numerous troops reacted to the post, at least one of them is still serving with the unit.
The chat is reported to have included nine soldiers, reinforcing reports that Wanjiru’s murder was a well-kept secret at the British training camp in Laikipia County.
According to reports, the soldier confessed to killing Wanjiru to his army comrades on the night of the crime last week.
Wanjiru’s body was discovered two months later by a maintenance worker who noted a foul odor.
The soldiers implicated had already fled Kenya.
The body of Wanjiru was shown to the soldiers by the murderer’s comrade on the night she died, according to one of the soldiers who confessed to the Sunday Times.
Despite allegations that Wanjuru died from choking, it was discovered that the mother of one had been stabbed to death.
Her lungs had collapsed and she had a blunt force injury to her chest.
Njeri Thuku, a Nanyuki law court Principal Magistrate, gave and signed the decision that Wanjiru was murdered.
Since then, the trail has become cold, and the culprit is yet to be apprehended.
