Former Inspector General (IG) of Police Joseph Boinnet has been named as the next Deputy National Security Advisor by President William Ruto.
State House Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei made the announcement in a Gazette notice dated March 6, 2023, claiming that it was in accordance with the National Security Council Act.
At the same time, Monica Juma, the current National Security Advisor and former Defence Cabinet Secretary, was named as the Secretary of the National Security Council.
Prior to his appointment, Boinnet ran unsuccessfully for the governorship of Elgeyo Marakwet in the 2022 August elections.
He had resigned as Tourism Cabinet Assistant Secretary (CAS) in order to enter electoral politics.
