A new dawn for protesters arrested during the Azimio la Umoja Coalition Countrywide mass action after the ODPP moves to review their files.
According to Lawyer Danstun Omari representing Hon. Absalom, the Korogocho MCA in Court over hate speech, the DPP has asked all defence lawyers representing protesters arrested during the demonstrations to forward names of the suspects to allow DPP to review the files and give a conclusive decision.
Absalom’s hate speech case which was coming up today for a mention to confirm the decision from the ODPP had to be adjourned for one month.
This according to the public prosecutor is to allow the prosecution time to peruse the files of all demonstration suspects and issue a holistic decision.
In a sample case where Korogocho MCA, Hon. Absalom is charged with hate speech with the intention to incite violence, the MCA through his Lawyers has maintained that the charges were politically motivated.
Over the last two weeks, the prosecution dropped various charges against MPs and MCAs arrested during the Azimio ‘maandamano’.
It is on this ground that all the other suspects arrested and charged on account of the same demonstrations are calling the ODPP to move with speed and drop their charges as well
