Following a by-election held on Thursday, December 16, the ruling Jubilee party retained the Mahoo Ward seat in Taita Taveta.
Donald Fundi, a Jubilee candidate, defeated Daniel Matuku, a UDA candidate, with 1609 votes (51 per cent) to 1358 votes (46 per cent).
With 89 (3 per cent) votes, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo’s Tujibebe Party candidate Samuel Mochiemo came in third.
Deputy President William Ruto, who was eager to demonstrate his party’s political prowess in Taita Taveta County, was devastated by the Jubilee triumph.
The seat fell vacant after the death of MCA Ronald Sagurani.
