Kabras Sugar Win The Sisimka Charity Cup Title

Kabras Sugar scored five tries to a 29-10 win over Kenya Harlequin in the Sisimka Charity Cup at the Nyayo National Stadium that was held on Saturday 20 February 2021. – By Madellene Kalunda.

The Zimbabwean Mzingaye Nyathi coached side scored five tries and two conversions to win the match against Quins’ one converted try and penalty.

It started with the Hidden Talent ladies facing off with Twiga RPS. Twiga were beaten 24-0. The second match saw a fully fit Impala Ladies team humble Mwamba ladies with their 22-5 win in this second encounter.

The long-awaited men’s match kicked off at 4:00 pm, where Quins went ahead and took and took an early 3 point lead through Evin Asena’s penalty.

 Kabras responded through Fijian Jone Kubu’s unconverted try. Brian Juma then scored the first of his two tries to give Kabras a 12-3 lead at half time.

Kubu converted Derrick Ashiundu’s try after the break to put Kabras 19-3 ahead. The Kakamega based team then scored two more unconverted tries through Juma and George Nyambua before Dennis Muhanji scored a well worked try for Quins, Asena converting for the 29-10 full time score.

This fixture served as the curtain raiser to the Kenya Cup season which kicks off on 27 February.

Sugar millers landed a second through, this time through Hillary Odhiambo. Kubu’s foot was on point this time as he successfully added the conversion giving his side a 12-3 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Kakamega-based side score a total of 17 points while their opponents scored 7 points. The Kenya Harlequins’ indiscipline saw them receive one red and one yellow card reducing their squad to 13 players in the field against Kabras’ 15.

George Nyambua and former Kenya Sevens international Brian Tanga would combine to extend the sugar men’s lead to 29-3 before Dennis Muhanji scored the Quins’ first and only try of the match. Asena added the extras for a 29-10 full time score in favour of Kabras Sugar RFC.
