A sigh of relief shone on many faces today when the Health Cabinet Secretary announced that no new cases had been confirmed in Kenya.
As Kenya enters a crucial stage in the coronavirus crisis, CS Mutahi Kagwe announced a raft of measures introduced to enforce social distancing policy among citizens.
In his address, the CS has directed that from March 23rd, all bars, pubs and entertainment joints will be closed as from 7.30pm.
The CS also urged the joint owners to corperate with authorities in maintaining the required social distancing guidelines of atleast 1.5M away from each other.
All supermarkets have also been required to limit the number of shoppers at any given time and encourage home delivery services.
“They must disinfect their facilities several times a day. We encourage them to open for 24 hours where feasible. The government will provide security” said CS Kagwe.
Open-air markets, car bazaars, and mitumba display markets will be sprayed regularly as they have been marked as high-risk areas, alongside public transport.
Public Transport vehicles have been directed to halve their passenger capacities, and ensure minimized contact between people in matatus.
Firms, factories, and workshops have also been required to send their staff home unless they are working on essential service commodities. even so, these companies have been directed to maintain social distance to each other, with regular sanitization processes in their spaces.
In conclusion the health secretary asked all citizens to continue practicing hygiene, as the key to containing the coronavirus infection.
