On Saturday, March 18, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka denied allegations that he had backed out of planned protests leading to the State House on Monday, March 20.
Paloma Gatabaki, Communications Lead at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Command Centre, flagged a viral poster claiming that the former Vice President had withdrawn from the protests.
Kalonzo’s communications team insisted that the Wiper Leader was still campaigning for lower living costs alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“Kalonzo Musyoka’s position is unequivocal: reduce the cost of living and end electoral malpractice. No amount of intimidation will change our minds “Gatabaki stated.
The viral poster implied that Kalonzo had stepped back to protect the interests of his supporters.
“I want to distance myself from protests (maandamano). My people have suffered enough at the hands of selfish individuals, and I don’t want them to fall into the same trap again “claimed the sham poster.
Despite Kalonzo’s declaration on Friday, March 17, during a series of rallies in Kiambu County, it was then shared on social media.
Kalonzo promised to lead peaceful protests to the State House before presenting President William Ruto with their demands.
Simultaneously, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni declared a public holiday for his party’s employees on Monday, March 20.
In addition, the party informed its members that their offices would be closed in order for them to participate in the mass action.
“In accordance with the Azimio la Umoja, One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga’s directive,” the internal memo read in part.
“As a result, our headquarters in Kileleshwa, as well as our county, constituency, and ward offices, will remain closed,” Kioni added.
