Kalonzo Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing In Suswa

The pilots noticed the malfunction before the plane took off, preventing the Wiper leader from boarding.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s chopper suffered an engine failure in Suswa, Narok, on Sunday, July 3, delaying his flight to Homa Bay.

According to Dennis Kavisu, Kalonzo’s personal assistant, the incident occurred while the former Vice President was on his way to Homa Bay to join former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at a rally.

He stated that the Wiper leader had to camp in Narok and wait for another helicopter to take him to his destination.

Paloma Gatabaki, Kalonzo’s Communications Director, later confirmed that the former Vice President had been evacuated by another helicopter and would attend subsequent Azimio rallies in Homa Bay.

She stated that the pilots noticed the malfunction before the plane took off, preventing the Wiper leader from boarding.

“You drive a car, there is always an issue with a car somewhere or the other. That is what happened with the chopper but they are on their way and are fine. It was headed in Homabay.

“His Excellency (Kalonzo) was not on the flight. He was where he was with his people. He is already in Homa Bay and he is fine,” Gatabaki stated.

Kalonzo was headed to Oyugis where he was a part of the line-up that had been scheduled to hold its first major Azimio rally in Nyanza Region.

However, the Wiper party leader confirmed that he experienced a technical problem and stated that he was on his way to Homa Bay minutes before 2pm.

“Off to join my brother Raila Odinga and the Azimio-One Kenya team in Homabay County after a technicality that forced us to land in Suswa and delayed for some hours. The Buffalo is ready,” he wrote on Facebook.
