Kalonzo Present As Raila, Opposition Snub Mashujaa Celebrations

Azimio-One Kenya principal Kalonzo Musyoka attended President William Ruto’s first national celebrations at Uhuru Gardens.

Kalonzo was seen on the main dais with other top government officials in photos shared on social media.

After inspecting a guard of honour, Ruto exchanged greetings with the former Vice President on the dais.

The President was unaware of his presence until Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro informed him that Kalonzo was seated at the far end of the front row.

Ruto had a tet a tet with Kalonzo after greeting the UDA party leadership, including Secretary-General Veronica Maina and Chairman Johnstone Muthama.

The Azimio principal sat beside outgoing Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki, who was accompanied by Embakasi South MP Musili Mawathe.

His presence was unexpected, given his previous stance that Azimio will not engage with the government in any way other than to keep it in check.

In the days leading up to the August 9 General Election, Ruto launched a charm offensive to entice Kalonzo to join his Kenya Kwanza Alliance, including an offer of a government job.

However, the Azimio principal chose to support Raila for the third time in the Opposition Chief’s fifth presidential bid.

His fellow Azimio coalition party leader Raila Odinga is currently on a 10-day trip to India.
