Kangundo Chief Faces Charges For Stealing Relief Food

Mr King'ele was accused of stealing two bags of rice and two bags of beans each weighing 50 kilograms valued at Sh25,000

 A Chief in Kangundo Sub-county has been charged with stealing relief food meant for poor residents.

Isinga location Chief Mutinda King’ele was charged with stealing by a person employed in public service contrary to section 280 of the penal code.

Appearing yesterday before Kangundo Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Opanga,Mr King’ele was accused of stealing two bags of rice and two bags of beans each weighing 50 kilograms valued at Sh25,000 and which was the property of the government of Kenya.

The offense was allegedly committed on March 16, 2022 at Matetani village in Kangundo, Machakos County.

Mr King’ele who was not represented by a lawyer denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh5,000.

The state had lined up 13 witnesses to testify against Mr King’ele.

Hearing was set for January 12,2023.
