Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Impeached

Governor Kawira Mwangaza of Meru County has been impeached barely three months into office.

This comes after 67 Meru MCAs voted in favor of Mwangaza’s impeachment resolution on Wednesday.

The motion was initially presented by Abogeta West MCA Dennis Kiogora on November 22, 2022, on the grounds that the Governor had infringed on her constitutional rights.

According to sources, two MCAs affiliated with Mwangaza, Simon Kiambi and John Kithinji Ethaiba of Kiagu and Nkomo wards, respectively, did not vote since they were absent.

Mwangaza’s fate now lies in the hands of the Senate, which will decide whether to sustain or overturn the impeachment.
