A man has been lynched for allegedly stealing vegetables in Machakos county’s Kangundo area.
The victim, who was in his early 20s, was killed, according to Zacharia Bitok, the police commander for Kangundo Subcounty, after he was discovered stealing kale in the early hours of Sunday at a farm there.
The suspect was beaten to death shortly before he was set on fire at around 4.00am. According to Bitok, there have been reports of widespread vegetable theft in the area.
The deceased, whose identity was not immediately known, was allegedly the victim of mob injustice, according to the police chief. He issued a warning to the populace against enforcing the law themselves.
