Kanini Kega Fights Back, Says Uhuru Will Face Disciplinary Action

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker Kanini Kega announced on Monday, May 22, that former President Uhuru Kenyatta would face disciplinary action as a result of his expulsion of ten members from the party.

During a press conference, Kega stated that the disciplinary action would be guided by the party’s internal dispute resolution committee, after which a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) would be called.

The legislator dismissed Uhuru’s meeting as a ‘political rally,’ noting that the party would hold a proper National Delegates Convention (NDC) no later than July 15, 2023.

“The party will not shy from taking further disciplinary action on our party leader in order to restore its dignity and retain its rightful place in the country. We will wait for the determination of the Internal Committee on the dispute after which NEC will meet to execute its mandate relating to convening of the NDC.”

“We expect that a proper NDC will be held no later than July 15, 2023,” he indicated.

He condemned Uhuru’s actions and questioned why he defied a legitimate organ by violating the party constitution.

“It is unfortunate the former president has chosen to be on the wrong side of history by defying a legitimate decision of the party organ and ceased being a party leader on March 14, 2023.

“He has no power to call or chair meetings. Such impunity is unacceptable and taints the reputation of the Office of the Retired President,” he noted.

He assured Jubilee members that their positions remained valid as Uhuru’s NDC meeting had not been properly convened in accordance with Jubilee regulations.

“The members remain in office notwithstanding the political pronouncements made in the said meeting. Further, you will recall that Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice-chairperson David Murathe were found guilty in the decision ratified by NEC on May 19, 2023, effectively expelling them from the membership of the party,” he said.

During the NDC meeting at Ngong Racecourse, Uhuru expelled ten errant members for disloyalty.

These included Jimmy Angweny, Joshua Kutuny, Mutava Musyimi, Kega, Boniface Kinoti Gatobu, Naomi Shaban and Nelson Dzuya.

Rachael Nyamaye, Advice Mundalo, Executive Director Wambui Gichuru, and Joel Kibe were also fired.
