Karembu: Educate The Public To Combat GMO Stereotypes

Following the lifting of the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) ban, biotechnology experts are advocating for expanded public discussions.

Dialogue, according to Dr. Margaret Karembu of the Open Forum on Biotechnology-OFAB, will help combat false and misleading information regarding genetically modified organisms in the public.

Karembu, for example, has refuted various allegations made against GMOs, such as the extinction of specific crop species and cross-pollination.

Leaders of the Azimio organization criticized President William Ruto for abandoning the nation’s long-held stance on GMOs.

They said that the decision appears to be made more in order to serve the interests of multinational corporations than to promote food security in the nation.

“The vacating on the ban for GMOs opens up Kenya to diverse challenges and threats with the Kenya multi-billion food market being susceptible to strangulation by profit-hungry multinationals handing over our food sovereignty to corporate manipulators,” he said.
