Softball Kenya boss Nick Karugu has edged out former Shujaa rugby legend Innocent “Namnyak” Kayange in a tight election securing the position of Deputy Secretary-General at the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) by a single vote 14 to 13 during Thursday’s poll at Ole Sereni, Nairobi.
The narrow victory underscores Karugu’s rising influence in national sports administration and signals growing support for his administrative vision.
Karugu’s win adds a softball voice to NOC-K’s leadership team, enhancing the representation of non-mainstream sports.
As Deputy Secretary-General he is expected to collaborate closely with other executives to drive reforms, transparency, and increased athlete support ahead of major regional and international competitions.
